‘Children and fools cannot lie’
John Heywood, 1497-1580

Children

For more than 500 years, it’s been on the record. Kids? What you see is what you get. If little ‘dear Amanda’ is feeling slightly miffed at having been usurped from the centre of attention; if ‘lovable Alex’ has decided he simply is not going to wear his page-boy jacket, then their (cherubic?!) faces will betray their unhappiness. And nobody wants some sourpuss kid ruining the pictures.

John Brandwood is possessed of infinite patience and considerable experience of photographing younger people who may not especially wish to be photographed. He disarms them with his honesty, comforts them with his humour and bolsters them with the confidence he shows in them.

For small children, the formality and pageantry of a wedding can be overwhelmingly stressful. How he manages it, I can’t tell; but John knows how; and good for the rest of us that he does.
